Item #1: Postcrossing Post Card from The Netherlands.
Isn't this card so colourful? Easily a favorite of mine!
I also really like this card because it is a picture of the sender, Sonia's, hometown. She wrote on her card to me that, "The bench in the front, the church and the large modern apartment building are nearby where I live." She also wished me a Happy 2014, which is always nice :) I like getting to know little bits about a lot of people, and it is one of the amazing features of Postcrossing.
Item #2: Letter & Bracelet from Tory.
First thing I thought when I picked up the envelope (along with my post card) when I got home today and was about to open it was to wonder about the odd sound coming from the inside. And this was what I found!
I really like this bracelet; it's simple, but it's very cute. The brass rings at the top are my favorite part, because it's so different than any bracelets that I already have. Well, different than most bracelets that I already have.
For anyone that's actually been reading any of these ramblings (kudos to you!), I received a couple of rings as well as a bracelet similar to this one from my pen pal for Christmas.
The style of bracelet is very similar, with the strings being used to tighten it. In a way I find it sort of funny, how two people living in different countries, their friendship with me being the only thing they have in common, and yet they both thought to give me a similar style of bracelet. I'm not sure if that's because they were both homemade and that just happens to be an easy style of bracelet to make, but either way, it's funny to think that I'm not only in other people's thoughts when they send me gifts, but that their thoughts somehow run on a similar course, even if it's just in regards to their choice of accessories to send off in the mail.
Anyway, back to the actual letter that Tory sent me. I received a letter from her sometime before Christmas I believe (obviously at a time before I thought to start this blog) and wrote back as quickly as I could, because it hadn't been too horribly long since she had moved back to London and I wanted to keep our correspondence up in as close to a rapid-fire succession as I possibly could. Tory, like me, is from Welland Ontario, but she's also lived in other places like Toronto. I've known her since 9th grade, when I met her and one of my 2 Melissa friends in Vocals/Singing class.
(In case anybody feels the need to ask, no I cannot sing well in the slightest. I restrict my singing to in front of a car radio or in the shower.)
We've been best friends ever since. I don't just have 1 best friend, mind you. Truth be told, I don't even like the term "best friend" because of the restriction within the term. If I have to use the term though, I would have to say that I have 4 best friends. Two of them, Melissa and Tory, I met in high school, while the other two, Melissa (yes, there's two of them) and Morgan, I originally met in kindergarten but got separated from over the course of years when I switched schools for the 3rd grade.
I love all of these girls; I love them dearly. Things have gotten a bit strained over the past year, and I can't say why, but it's for one of those reasons where if you dare to say it out loud, then everything around you will fall apart. It's a weird friendship now; I feel like if I decide to really and truly be myself, I'll end up offending one or more of them. That's not a good thing to feel, it's really not.
In spite of this, I know that I could come to the majority of my friends if I ever really needed somebody to be there for me, if I needed to vent or needed a hand or a shoulder to cry on. That's what they're there for. Maybe it's not perfect, but what in life is? We as a group have been able to take things as they've been thrown at us, and that in and of itself is pretty amazing.
Wow, random rambling about life XD I must stop doing that.
Until next time, I'll keep you all posted.
Okay, that's crazy! That bracelet that Tory sent you... I'd say how much I love it, but I don't want to sound full of myself. I made it. For Tory. As part of the IGGPPC Nerdfighters Bracelet Swap back in April. ROFL. Small world! I gave everyone in that swap two bracelets, so I guess it's cool to see she's sharing. lol. :)
