Geeks Run The World! #1

I recently joined a community on Google+ (in the hopes of figuring out exactly how Google+ works) for Female Geek Bloggers. Since then I've received many notifications of great female bloggers like myself, all of their blog posts geeky, and therefore awesome. I've noticed that whenever I come across somebody amazing in the geek universe that I've felt completely compelled to share my thoughts about them, and so I shall start with a post that really struck close to home that I read this morning.

Superheroesque (SHe)
Created By: Mia Moore & Liz Locksley

This blog literally launched today, so I feel pretty good about getting in on the ground floor, so to speak. But what I want to mainly discuss is the very first post on this new blog project, titled How To Be A Real Geek.

I relate to the content in this article wholeheartedly. I think anybody that self-identifies as a geek, even in part, has come across the elitist side of the community who feel you have to earn the title. That's always bothered me. As an example, my friends are constantly telling me that I'm not a "real" Harry Potter fan because I've only seen the movies and haven't read any of the books. They also tend to tell me that I'm not a "real" Nerdfighter because I haven't been watching the vlogbrothers videos as frequently as they do.

Why all the hating, fellow geek girls? Mia's hit the nail on the head with this initial post; all that matters is that you are passionate about something. To "Love Something Apologetically", just like she said. There's actually a quote I know of that can be applied here, and it's one I have inscribed on a journal I have back home.

"The way to know life is to love many things."
- Vincent Van Gogh

And it's completely true, isn't it? Every single geek on the planet, male or female, knows that the things we love are the things that give us the most joy in life. They're what motivate us in everything we do. What are we without our passions, anyway? That's all it takes to be a geek; passion toward the things you love.

I'd like to thank the geek girls behind Superheroesque for starting off their blog on an extremely good note for geek girls everywhere. I wish you the best of luck with this new project. Keep up the good work!

If you'd like to read more, I have a link to their Google+ community lower on the right bar there. You can also click either image in this post for links as well.
