5 Fictional Characters I Most Identify With

And another [week] bites the dust! (Bet I've used that one already . . . XD) Happy End-Of-The-Week, my friends! Funny thing, I was actually asked a question similar to this in one of my classes in the first week. I think it was during my first day of my Marketing class (because our professor is hilarious and he seems like the type to ask this as an ice breaking question). I ended up listing two characters that I felt I would ideally identify with in the fantasy version of myself in my own head, and then I listed another character that I felt was closer to who I am in reality :P To learn more, read on!

#5: Reality - Eadlyn Schreave from The Heir by Kiera Cass! A quote from Eadlyn early in the book helps to sum up why I would choose to include her in this list:

"You are Eadlyn Schreave. You are the next person in line to run this country, and you will be the first girl to do it on your own. No one is as powerful as you."

 Not to speak ill of Eadlyn, because I love her as a character, but I know for a fact that I can be a royal bitch sometimes (pun intended). And in particular I have a few friends that are incredibly nice, and for whatever reason my default mode is to turn into an antagonistic character in comparison to their winning personalities because I know deep down that I would never want them to change but their niceness still upsets me because I know in my heart I'm nowhere near as nice as they are. Does that make any sense? Regardless, I've been feeling that way a lot lately, which is why Eadlyn's personality & attitude at the beginning of The Heir comes to mind.

#4: Fantasy - Stargirl Carraway from Stargirl & Love, Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli! This is one of the 2 fantasy characters I listed in class when the prof asked us to list characters we identify with. Ever since I read the first Stargirl book in 7th or 8th grade, I have aspired to bring a little more of Stargirl's optimism and winning personality into my life in order to make myself into the person that I want to be. I try to drop change on the ground for kids and other people to pick up, I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and smile as much as possible, and I try to see the wonder in everyday sights and things and people as much as humanly possible. I doubt I will ever aspire fully to Stargirl's level, but it never hurts to aspire to true greatness :)

#3: Reality - Sloan Sabbith from HBO's The Newsroom! This is the character I mentioned as who I identify the most with in real life. When first introduced to this show, my boyfriend at the time mentioned that he thought I had a lot in common with this character Sloan, who was awkward and hilarious. Intrigued, I watched on and paid close attention to Sloan once she was introduced in the 2nd episode. It's hard not to pay attention to her really, she's so freaking funny XD And while I'm the farthest thing from an economist (I avoid math at all costs, that's why I have an English degree! XD), I do know when it's time to get serious, even if I'm never 100% sure of myself.

#2: Fantasy - Ramona Flowers from Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World! As I mentioned in a special post I did on Valentine's Day, my friends commonly refer to me as the Ramona Flowers of the group because of the fact that I have 7 [evil] ex-boyfriends, and even before the number reached 7 I still had the most exes among my friends (even combined). But I ideally identify with Ramona because she's simply a badass; she knows what she wants and she makes it clear when somebody is annoying her or pissing her off. I also like how when she tells Scott the backstory on her exes that she's never defensive about her past and she owns up to it and is upfront and honest (even when rhyming). I certainly wish I felt that way about everyone I've dated.

#1: Reality - Mackenzie McHale from HBO's The Newsroom! While I told my professor and classmates that, in reality, I associate more with Sloan Sabbith, I feel that a case could be made for parts of my personality that might resemble Mac's more closely. For instance, I could directly paraphrase a quote from hers and it holds the same hilarity, even if the subject is changed slightly:

"Hey juggard, I ain't afraid of anything except [skunks] which is completely normal . . ."

 Also I feel like whenever I get into a tizy that I pretty closely resemble Mac whenever she's flipping out about something or other. When I'm in my element I'd like to think that I could potentially run as efficiently as Mac does when she's in the control room and has her headset on. I'm also shit at comebacks, I can get awkward and cute whenever I'm able to properly explain the thoughts that are organized a lot more nicely in my head, and I feel I'm pretty good at handling myself when I'm leading a team like how Mac is able to lead the room during rundown meetings. I hope to become a little more Mac-like in the future, because in spite of her shortcoming she is beyond amazing in ever sense of the word.
