5 Favorite LGBT Representations - #LoveWins!

While there is a different prompt for this week, I've decided that in honor of last week's Supreme Court decision in the US, I would hijack today's prompt and do something a little bit different. The inspiration for this post came from Geek Girl Senshi, a fellow FGB Member who did a post filled with her favorite LGBT representations across different mediums, and I decided to apply it to 5 Fandom Friday for this week. As an ally, I'm more than happy to share some of my favorite LGBT representations in the media. #LoveWins! (FYI, it wasn't my intention to lean more towards male couples, these are just the ones that came to mind as my favorite)

Love Letters to the Dead by Ava Dellaira! The reason I included this YA novel in my list is because of the relationship that develops between the secondary characters, Laurel's senior friends (which for the life of me I can't remember the names of - I've searched the internet to no avail and I listened to this originally as an audio book so I can't exactly flip through a book in order to find out). The couple discovers their feelings towards one another when the events of the book are taking place, although it's done off in the background while the protagonist is focusing on other things. The two of them struggle through hardships together and do so with an admirable grace, and by the end of the novel it is shown that love, any kind of love, conquers all :)

Renly & Loras from Game of Thrones! How adorable are these crochet versions of these two?! I couldn't resist using this image instead of a screen shot from the show. Without getting into spoilers I'll say that things don't end up working out for these two, but they are nonetheless one of GoT fans' favorite couples from the show. I haven't read the books yet so I can't speak as a fan of the books, but we certainly love them in the show!

The amazing marriage of Gandalf & Dumbledore! So here are the cliff notes of the story: After Ireland legalized gay marriage (this was a short time before the Supreme Court ruling in the states), J.K. Rowling tweeted a meme about Gandalf and Dumbledore being gay together, saying, "They could get married in Ireland" The anti-gay group of Westboro Baptist Church responded to the author's tweet by saying, "If that happens, WBC will picket!" So, naturally, this wedding had to happen! The entire thing was done by actors, at the Equality house located right across the street from WBC, It may not have been an official union, but the message made that day was loud and clear, and both the LGBTQ community and the nerd community had reason to rejoice.

Kurt & Blaine from Glee! I'm pretty sure I would end up getting lynched by one of my best friends if I didn't make room for the almighty Klaine in this list (Are you happy, Melissa? :P). Klaine is made up of Kurt and Blaine from Glee, the constantly on-again-off-again high-school-turned-young-adult couples. I have only walked up to halfway to the 4th or 5th season of the show (whichever season contained the tribute to Cory Monteith - I bawled like a baby), but if I had to pick a favorite musical number between these two it would be their rendition of "Baby It's Cold Outside" since that's one of my favorite songs to hear around the holiday season.

YouTube's #ProudToLove Video! I never said that all of the representations here were going to be fictional, now did I? ;) I happened to stumble across this video either last Friday or last Saturday, but it struck me because it included some of my favorite Youtubers, specifically the ones that have made coming out videos. The footage spliced together is moving and was perfectly timed to mark this historic event. Good job, YouTube!
